The heat in Lagos has started again. I mean, the change in weather is always great way to know that the holidays are approaching in a way. But, I also want to live long enough to celebrate them, for goodness sake.
Especially because… Please, wait, help me analyse this – Is it me, or do they begin to cut the power more often in this Lagos State when it’s the last two hotter months in the year?
We tend to have power often in my neigbourhood which I brag about to the sheer irritation and envy of my friends. Like, so often I forget I own a power generator, and I technically can afford more meals because I’m not buying fuel every other day.
Yet, it seems like we’ve just come from a season that, even when it was constantly raining the power stayed on, to there being power outages every day for extended periods of time, day and night (as of the writing of this article, I’ve slept without electricity twice. Also because my generator decided it would be wicked, or something). Except, now the weather is hot!
Not. Funny.
Breaking in sweat is one of my least favourite things to do unless you’ve promised me toned abs on the spot!
Yet, here we are.
The heat might’ve barely started a few days ago, but it’s already enough to complain about. A brisk stroll around your house, and you start sweating? You can’t flex your mami-wata-length hairdo in an environment that is not air conditioned? For what?? This is not a thing that happens, and it’s getting to me.
Hence, my quest for S.O.L.U.T.I.O.N.S. It doesn’t spell out anything. I just wrote it like that for emphasis.
Personally, since I generally try not to leave my house anyways, because it’s safer in here as you don’t know what could be out there – Like, traffic! Except what’s out there is food and/or a guaranteed nice time, or money though – what I do is try harder to maintain a cool body temperature indoors.
Usually, if the power has only been out for a short time, the house is still cool, and you’re fine for a bit. So, if you must move, do so at a leisurely pace. Staying in the nude is a no-brainer in this instance. At least, now there’s obvious justification as to why I do not wear clothes inside the house.
Still, if the heat keeps up like this, and power outages get more frequent, I feel like I’m going to end up spending all the money I’d saved not buying fuel all this time. It’s nice I’m about to change weathers briefly, but when I come back from the trip nkor? What would become of me? Would it not be even worse then, lawwwwd??
Please, who has ANY additional advice on how we can survive this heat together? Because, if there’s times when we need to “put aside our differences and come together” as members of a same geographic location, it is times like now.
Great suggestions would be appreciated, ranging from much needed solutions as how we do our part to combat global warming, to more short term solutions like where you can obtain petrol for free to keep the generator running when you need it the most. (Because we WILL do our part to fight against global warming, right?)
I’m not signing off until I get answers.
